What Needs Longer — And Why
It is not only a question of how busy we are. Some repairs include a stage that simply cannot be rushed, because a material has to dry or set.
- Sole replacement — the adhesive needs full drying time, and cutting it short costs durability
- Recolouring and renewing shoes — each layer must dry before the next
- Replacing a coat lining — the garment comes apart and back together almost entirely
- Replacing a zip in a coat or bag — delicate work that should not be hurried
- A full suit alteration — several stages, ideally with a fitting in between
How to Improve the Odds
The difference between yes and no is usually not the size of the repair but how early we know about it. A few simple things help a great deal:
- Send a photo on WhatsApp before you set out, so we know what is coming and can plan
- Come early in the day rather than near closing
- Bring the item ready — both shoes, the curtain hooks, the garment with its belt and shoes
- Tell us the exact date and time you need it back
A tip from the workshop: do not just say urgent — say exactly when. Half a day either way sometimes decides whether your repair can be slotted between other jobs, and we would rather commit to a real time than promise and miss it.
What Not to Do at the Last Minute
The thing that makes our job hardest is an item someone already tried to fix at home. Quick glue on a sole, an amateur hand stitch across a tear, or forcing a jammed zip all turn a fifteen-minute repair into a job that starts by undoing what was done.
