The Guide to a Perfectly Tailored Suit

An expensive suit that hasn't been tailored will look worse than a basic suit fitted to perfection. The secret to a sharp look is the fit, not just the fabric.

What can be tailored on a suit?

  • Shortening the jacket sleeves so about 1 cm of shirt cuff shows
  • Taking in the back of the jacket for a clean look
  • Shortening and fitting trousers, with or without a cuff
  • Adjusting the trouser waist
  • Narrowing the shoulder width (a more delicate job)

How do you know a suit fits right?

The shoulders should end exactly at the edge of your shoulder, the jacket should close with a slight taper without pulling, and the sleeves should end at the base of your hand.

Tip: bring the shoes you'll wear with the suit so we can set the trouser length exactly.
